Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue is a charity set up in 2008, run by Chris Clark and her small team of dedicated volunteers. We have 3 kennels and a few experienced, well trusted foster homes and always run at full capacity to take in unwanted staffies, and then work extremely hard to find them loving, new forever homes.
Our rescue mainly take referrals from the council pounds, police and social services rather than directly from the general public. We do however help owners who are dying or fleeing domestic violence where we can. Sadly our services are in huge demand, so much so that we operate a waiting list. However, by keeping our team small we believe our rescue practices remain thorough and successful.
Many of the staffies that come into our care are badly neglected, some have very severe skin issues such as demodex mange that often has been left untreated. It is common that they have a very poor diet and many are under-socialised with other animals and people.
As with other rescues, we rely on public donations to fund our rescue work. In addition to the dogs currently in kennels we also offer full life after care for some of our dogs who have been rehomed if they are needing continuous veterinary treatment. Funds are a constant concern but every penny donated is spent on our staffies.
We have the additional problem that we can only advertise our ‘public’ dogs for rehoming. We also have ‘hidden’ dogs that we are helping that we cannot publicise due to court cases or domestic situations. So at any given time we are actually supporting more dogs than it may appear and cannot use their stories to appeal for funds.
We post regular pupdates on our Facebook page from our boys and girls that we hope you enjoy reading and will bring a smile to your face (and the odd tear). There you can also find our all the ways to support our rescue work in the ‘our story’ section. Just sharing our Facebook posts is a HUGE help – getting our dogs seen on social media is the main way we rehome them. We truly appreciate all the help we receive from our amazing supporters.
Rescue is hard work, often heart-breaking and difficult, but also immensely rewarding. To see our staffies go off to a bright and happy future is all the reward we could ask for.
